4.5.4 Measurement for cut piece dimension. The procedure for measuring the dimensions specified under class number shall be as follows: a. The cut pieces shall be conditioned at standard conditions for 24 hours prior to testing, with the cut pieces
laying flat. b. The tail length and loop length shall be measured to the nearest 1/16 inch by use of a steel rule. Measurement for the distance between the outside edges of the webbing loops in the cut pieces shall be made by inserting a 1/8 inch diameter pin into each loop and applying a 5-pound load in the loops. Measurement shall be made
within 30 seconds after the 5-pound load was applied. c. The results shall be reported as the average of 5 determinations to the nearest 1/16 inch.
4.5.5 Packing inspection. The preservation, packing and marking shall be inspected to verify conformance to the requirements in section 5.
5. PACKAGING
5.1 Preservation. Preservation shall be level A, B, or C as specified (See 6.2).
5.1.1 Webbing. Webbing, put up as specified (see 3.5.1), shall be packaged in boxes conforming to PPP-B-566. Each box shall contain 100 pieces.
5.2 Packing. Packing shall be level A, B, or C, as specified (see 6.2).
5.2.1 Level A. Webbing preserved as specified (see 5.1.1) shall be packed in weather-resistant shipping containers conforming to PPP-B-636. Shipments that exceed the weight limitations of this specifications shall be packed in overseas type containers conforming to PPP-B-601. The gross weight of each container shall not exceed 200 pounds. Closure and strapping shall be in accordance with the appendix of PPP-B-636 or PPP-B-601, as applicable. Weatherproofing shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-1186.
5.2.2 Level B. Webbing preserved as specified (see 5.1.1) shall be packed in domestic shipping containers conforming to PPP-B-636. The gross weight of each shipping container shall not exceed the weight limitations of this specification. Closure and strapping shall be in accordance with the appendix of PPP-B-636.
5.2.3 Level C. Preservation that require over-packing for acceptance by the carrier shall be placed in exterior type shipping containers in a manner that will insure safe transportation at lowest rate to the point of delivery. Containers shall comply with Uniform Freight Classification Rules or regulations of other carriers as applicable to the mode of transportation.
5.3 Marking. In addition to any special marking required by contract or order (see 6.2), unit packages and shipping containers shall be marked in accordance with
MIL-STD-129.
