3.1.3 Weave. The weave shall be 2/2 twill for the body between the loops and 1/1 for the loop sections as shown on figure 1.
3.1.3.1 Spacing of loops. For all classes the loops, in pairs, shall be as shown on figure
2.
3.1.3.2 Formation of loops. By adjustment of the weaving mechanism, the loops shall be formed by reversal of the filling yarns at the center of the webbing in order to enclose each half of the total warp ends to form the sides of the loop.
3.2 Functional characteristics. The webbing shall meet the requirements of table I when tested as specified in section 4.
3.2.1 Resistance to light and heat. The webbing shall lose no more than 25 percent of its original breaking strength when tested, as specified in section 4, for resistance to heat and to light.
3.2.2 Nonfibrous materials. Residual size, finish oils, or other nonfibrous materials shall not exceed 2 percent.
3.2.3 Acidity. The finished webbing shall have a pH value of 5.0 to 9.0.
3.2.4 Finishing agent. Dyestuffs, detergents, or other chemicals or finishing agents used in the manufacture of the webbing shall not cause deterioration under normal warehouse storage conditions, nor cause dermatitis on prolonged intimate skin contact, nor increase the flamability of the webbing.
3.3 Color. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2) the webbing shall be furnished in the natural color.
3.3.1 Dyeing. When colored webbing is specified, the webbing shall be dyed with acetate or acid-type dyes. Metallized or chrome dyes shall not be used.
3.4 Put-up. The webbing shall be furnished in cut pieces, the dimensions of which shall be specified by class number (see 1.2).
3.4.1 Cutting of pieces for put-up. Each piece shall be prepared by cutting the solid weave webbing with a very hot knife or wire. The seared tail end shall not exceed the thickness of the webbing by more than 0.010 inch. The fused portion measured along
the length of the tail shall be no greater than 1/32 inch.
