3.3.1.3 Thread and Whipping Cord. Appropriate threads and whipping cord
made in accordance with V-T-295 shall be selected to insure satisfactory per-
formance, aS specified herein. Thread, nylon, soft finish, Ticket #5, 3 ply
Type I, Class I, Sub-Class A, shall be utilized.
3.3.1.4 Stitches. Stitches shall be Class 300 and accomplished in ac-
cordance with Fed Std 751 to insure satisfactory performance, as specified
herein.
3.3.1.5 Nylon Webbing. Ends of all nylon webbing shall be seared.
3.3.1.6 Anti-Abrasive Treatment. The net body and border shall be given
one coat of anti-abrasive treatment per Drawing 6018. Mesh and border cord
furnished On reels for the net shall be uncoated. Lifting Legs, Part No.
6018-30 shall be treated per MIL-W-27265, Class R, prior to sewing and assembly
onto net mesh border.
3.3.1.7 Load Zone. The net load zone shall be marked with a hollow-
braided nylon cord, 1400 lb tensile strength, 142 feet per pound weight, color
of yellow-orange, No. 33538 per Fed-Std-595. The marker cord shall be applied
to the net mesh with a half hitch selvedging knot at each mesh intersection
and the two free ends shall be secured with a double half hitch knot with a
5 to 6 inch back splice to eliminate fraying. The load zone outline shall be
circumscribed by a 5 foot radius circle for the 5,000 lb capacity net and a
6 foot radius circle for the 10,000 lb capacity net. The load zone outline
shall be centered On the net mesh planform within 10 inches of true net center.
3.3.1.8 Color. The 10,000 lb capacity net shall be lusterless black,
No. 37038 per Fed-Std 595. The 5,000 lb capacity net shall be olive drabs
No, X34087, per Fed-Std-595. Exceptions are the Apex Tether Cord, Part No.
6018-45, Cotton Buffer, Part No. 6018-25, and Thread, Part No. 6018-40 may be
either black or olive drab per the above colors. The protective coating colors
of metalware is acceptable.
3.3.1.9 Production Repair. No repair procedures shall be applied to
production quantities to correct production defects.
3.3.2 Identification and Marking. The net shall be permanently marked with
a label per Federal Specification DDD-L-20, Type VI, Class II, with identifi-
cation part numbers, load capacity, manufacturer code and date of manufacture
(month and year). The label shall be sewn to one of the four retaining straps.
Nominal size shall be 1 3/4 inch wide by 5 inches long. Title and NSNs are
NET, HELICOPTER CARGO EXTERNAL, 5,000 LBS, NSN 1670-01-058-3811; NET, HELI-
COPTER CARGO EXTERNAL, 10,000 LBS, NSN 1670-01-058-3810.
3.3.3 Workmanship. The nets shall conform to the quality established by
this specification and documents referenced herein. The occurance of defects
shall not exceed the acceptance criteria established herein.
