MIL-N-58106
3. REQUIREMENTS
3.1 Item Description. The net is a gridwork of elastomer material which
gathers at its comers to envelop a cargo load. Through lifting legs, the
gathered comers join to a single attachment apex fitting to be placed onto a
helicopter external cargo hook.
3.1.2 Interface Definition. Interface of the net with the helicopter
external cargo hook is accomplished by the design of the apex fitting.
3.1.3 Major Component List. No major components are involved in the net
design.
3.1.4 Government Furnished Property. Bag, Aviator's Kit NSN 8460-00-606-
8366, one for each 5,000 lb capacity production net. Case, Screen, Woodland,
Radar Scattering NSN 1080-00-108-1155 or Case, Screen, Woodland, Radar Trans-
parent NSN 1080-00-107-$563, one for each 10,000 lb capacity.
3.2 Characteristics.
3.2.1 Performance. The net assembly is designed for a minimum of 100
operations consisting of carrying cargo beneath helicopters under world-wide
environmental conditions. Net P/N 6018-5 is capable of carrying 5,000 pounds
and net P/N 6018-10 is capable of carrying 10$000 pounds.
3.2.2.2 Physical Characteristics.
3.2.2.1 Weights. The 5,000 lb capacity net assembly maximum empty weight
shall not exceed 58 pounds. The 10,000 lb capacity net assembly maximum empty
weight shall not exceed pounds. These weights de not include stowage
containers.
3.2.2.2 Strengths. Metal parts, net mesh, and total net assembly strength
requirements are given in Table I.
3.2.2.3 Common Parts. Both capacity net shall use the same apex fitting
and the same lifting leg hooks. The retaining strap shall be made of the same
material as the lifting legs.
3.2.3 Reliability. The net has been designed with a life based on con-
dition rather than a finite service life based on time.
3.2.4 Maintainability. Each capacity net assembly, including the mesh cord,
border cord, and lifting legs shall be manufactured capable o being repaired to
full net performance capacity, if damaged in the field. The criteria for nets
repairability is contained an drawing 6022.
3.2.5 Environmental conditions. The net has been designed to withstand
climatic temperature and humidity extremes world-wide.
