QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISION
4.1 Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the
contract, the contractor is responsible for h the performance of all
inspection requirements. Except as otherwise specified in the contract,
the contractor may use his own or any other facilities suitable for the
performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless
disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to
perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification where such
inspections are deamed necessary to assure supplies and services conform
to prescribed requirements.
4.1.1 Responsibility for compliance. All items must meet all
requirements of sections 3 and 5. The inspection set forth in this
specification shall become a part of the contractor's overall inspection
system or quality program. The absence of any inspection requirements
in the specification shall not relieve the contractor of the
responsibility of assuring that all products or supplies submitted to the
Government for acceptance comply with all requirements of the contract.
Sampling in quality conformance does not authorize submission of known
defective material, either indicated or actual, nor does it commit the
Government to acceptance of defective material.
4.2 Classification of inspection.
The inspection requirements specified
herein are classified as follows:
a. First Article (see 4.3).
b.
Quality Conformance (see 4.4).
4.2.1 Inspection Lots. An inspection lot is defined as a collection of
100 slings or sling components which are alike in construction and place
of manufacture
4.3 First article inspection. When required (see 6.2d), inspection of
the first article shall be made of one completely fabricated item for all
provisions of the applicable drawings, provisions of this specification
and the test specified in 4.5. Failure of the sling or any sling
component to pass any of the inspections or tests shall be cause for
rejection of the first article. Further production of slings prior to
approval of the first article shall be at the manufacturer's risk.
4.4. Quality conformance. Selection of samples for quality conformance
inspections and testing shall be as specified in 4.11 except for the proof
load test of 4.6.1 and the non-destructive examination specified in 4.9
which shall apply to all sling components offered for acceptance. Random
samples selected for each inspection lot shall be examined as specified in
4.10. One rope assembly examined and accepted under the production
sampling of each inspection lot will be subjected to the testing specified
in 4.6.2. Failure of sling or any component of sling to pass the
examination or any testing specified in 4.6 shall cause acceptance to be
withheld for the failed sling and the inspection lot from which it was
drawn, until the following have been completed:
