5. PACKAGING
5.1 Preservation. Preservation shall be level A.
5.1.1 Level A. Each jump pack shall be laid flat, felt pad side up. All
areas of the felt pad shall be lightly and uniformly sprinkled with napthalene
flakes. The quick release snap hook shall be removed and completely wrapped
in 30-pound minimum basis weight kraft paper conforming to A-A-203. The
wrapped snap hook shall be placed within the jump pack. The pack shall be
folded to measure approximately 42-1/2 inches in length, 13-1/4 inches in
width and 3 inches in depth. The lowering line attachment web shall be neatly
folded and placed into the lowering line pocket. The honeycomb cross securing
straps shall be secured by the quick fit adapters. Each folded pack and the
end shock absorber shall be placed into a snug-fitting fiberboard box
conforming to style RSC, type CF, variety SW, class domestic, grade 200 of
PPP-B-636. The inside dimensions of the box shall approximate 52-1/2 inches
in length, 13-1/2 inches in width and 7-1/2 inches in depth. Approximate
dimensions shall be furnished as a guide only.
5.2 Packing Packing shall be Level A, B
or commercial as specified (see
6.2).
5.2.1 Level A packing. Ten jump packs, preserved as specified in 5.1,
shall be packed in a snug-fitting fiberboard shipping container, conforming to
overseas type, style A or J, grade A or B, type 2 load of PPP-B-601. The
inside dimensions of each container shall approximate 53-1/2 inches in length,
28 inches in width, and 28 inches in depth. Approximate dimensions are
furnished as a guide only. Each shipping container shall be closed and
reinforced in accordance with the appendix of PPP-B-601.
5.2.2 Level B Packing. Ten jump packs, preserved as specified in 5.1,
shall be packed as specified in 5.2.1, except that the shipping container
shall be domestic type.
5.2.3 Commericial packing,. Jump packs, preserved as specified in 5.1, shall
be packed in accordance with ASTM D 3951.
