2.3 Order of precedence. In the event of a conflict between the text of this document and the
references cited herein, the text of this document takes precedence. Nothing in this document,
however, supersedes applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been
obtained.
3. REQUIREMENTS
3.1 First article. When specified (see 6.2), a sample shall be subjected to first article
inspection in accordance with 4.2.
3.2 Materials and components. Materials and components shall conform to the requirements
on the applicable drawings, to subsidiary specifications and standards applicable thereto, and as
specified herein.
3.2.1 Materials and components. Materials and components shall conform to the requirements
environmentally preferable materials should be used to the maximum extent possible provided
the material meets or exceeds the operational requirements, and promotes economically
advantageous life cycle costs.
3.3 Construction. The construction shall conform in all respects to the drawing listed in
Section 2 and all subsidiary drawings pertaining thereto, and as specified herein.
3.3.1 Stitching, machine. All machine stitching shall be as specified on the applicable
drawings and as specified herein.
3.3.1.1 Type 301 stitching. Ends of all type 301 stitching shall be backstitched or
overstitched not less than 1/2 inch in accordance with the required stitch pattern. Thread tension
shall be maintained so that there will be no loose stitching resulting in the puckering of the
material sewn. The lock shall be embedded in the materials sewn.
