MIL-DTL-81014B
6.3.5 Throat. The throat is that area between the hook housing and the load beam, open at
the forward end, and culminating in the area where the load beam supports the sling adapter ring
while transporting a cargo load.
6.4 Lubrication. For guidance on lubrication see MIL-HDBK-838.
6.5 Endurance test failures. After any release failure in the manual mode, and subsequent to
actuation of the manual release after a release failure in the normal mode, the hook may be
examined to determine the cause of the failure. If the fault is determined for either a release or
relatch failure, the deficiency should be corrected. If the fault is not determined, the tests may be
continued. If the fault can be corrected by cleaning, adjustment, lubrication, or minor dressing of
surfaces, the hook should be reassembled and the testing continued. If corrective action requires
general overhaul or replacement of parts other than common fasteners, the testing should be
started from the beginning. Should more than two release failures, or more than ten relatch
failures occur during the endurance tests, the cause of failures should be determined, corrective
action should be taken, and the testing started from the beginning.
