6. NOTES
(This section contains information of a general or explanatory nature which may be helpful,
but is not mandatory.)
6.1 Intended use. The cargo hook is intended to provide a helicopter with an external means
for cargo pickup, transport, and release when installed and connected to the controls within the
helicopter.
6.2 Acquisition requirements. Acquisition documents must specify the following:
a. Title, number, and date of this specification.
b. Issue of DoDISS to be cited in the solicitation and if required, the specific issue of
individual documents referenced (see 2.2.1 and 2.3).
c. When first article is required (see 3.1).
d. Packaging requirements (see 5.1).
6.3 Definitions.
6.3.1 Automatic cargo pickup. An automatic cargo pickup is when the helicopter pilot flies
the aircraft so that the hook engages with the load without requiring the aid of ground personnel
to physically engage the hook with the load.
6.3.2 Rigid mount. A rigid mount is when the cargo hook is attached to the supporting
structure so that there is no relative motion between them.
6.3.3 Semiautomatic pickup. A semiautomatic pickup require is ground personnel to engage
the load sling in the hook but without having contact with the hook.
6.3.4 Semi-rigid mount. A semi-rigid mount is when the cargo hook is attached to a
member of the supporting structure such that the hook and member can pivot or swing about a
longitudinal axis located just above the hook.
